The PCAA annual show is a community show and open to all artists of all ages, any visual artistic medium, and all stages of artistry.

PENICUIK TURNER PRIZE:

Judge for the Penicuik Turner Prize 2017  is  Alison Stewart The selected artist will be awarded Penicuik’s Turner Prize, donated by Turner’s Blacksmiths, Penicuik.

PEOPLE’S CHOICE:

There will also be an award for the work of art voted for by the public. A trophy for the People’s Choice has been donated by PCAA and designed by Jan Miller, community artist.

GENERAL

We will endeavour to show at least one piece by each entrant, however this may not be possible due to size / space restrictions. The Exhibitions Committee reserves the right to reject works, its decision is final.

All work submitted must be available for the duration of the Exhibition.

All work not previously shown at PCAA is eligible for entry. Pieces, which have been shown previously at the PCAA, will be rejected.  Any unframed or poorly framed/mounted pieces will automatically be rejected.  Stretched canvasses with adequate attachments for hanging will be acceptable

Pieces not shown can be collected either at the end of the opening day or at the end of the exhibition, see ‘return of work’.

Work, once placed, cannot be removed until the close of the exhibition.

 

ENTRY PROCEDURE

Up to three artworks may be submitted by each entrant.

Please attach a label to each artwork, ensure this is filled in correctly as information entered will appear on our pricing information.

There is a small entry charge of £3 per item or £2 for PCAA members

 

TIMETABLE FOR EXHIBITION

All artists participating are invited to the public opening which will be on Saturday the 2nd September at 2.00pm

The Turner prize and People’s Choice will be announced between 2.00pm and 4.00pm on Sunday the 10th September.

We very much hope that all exhibitors and their friends will be able to come to these events.

 

OTHER PUBLIC VIEWING TIMES:

From 10.00am till 4.00pm Monday 5th September till Saturday 10th September.

And during #penfest2017 events held in our building.

 

SITTING THE EXHIBITION

For the exhibition to be able to be viewed publiclly from Monday to Saturday during #penfest2017:. Please give some of your time during the week to allow your art works to be open to the public. You are invited to add your name to the rota when you enter your work. You may also encourage friends and family to share in the sitting rota.

SPECIFICATIONS

Each artwork should be authenticated by the artist (i.e. signed and dated) in an appropriate place.

Each 2D artwork should be framed (in order to protect and present the work appropriately).

Frames must be durable for handling purposes; clip frames will not be accepted for submission.

All frames must have suitable hangings; with string / picture wire and ready to hang.

Composite artworks must be presented within one frame, or if canvases, must comprise of no more than 2 sections which will be classed as 2 submissions.

The artist is responsible for ensuring their work meets these criteria.

 

CARE OF WORK

The utmost care will be taken of all work submitted for selection, however, the organisers of the Penicuik Turner Prize Exhibition will not be liable for any damage caused to work which occurs in the normal course of handling, whether such damage is caused by the organisers, staff or otherwise.

Insurance is the responsibility of the artist, The PCAA does not insure works.

 

RETURN OF WORK

PLEASE COLLECT UNSOLD ART WORKS on Sunday the 10th September between 4.00pm and  6.00pm     

Unfortunately PCAA does not have storage facilities to keep works after this time.

 (Exhibitors who cannot collect works at this time should discuss it in advance with the organisers)

 

SALE OF WORK

PCAA takes 15% commission on all sales from artists who are members of the Association and 25% from non-members.

All sales are subject to commission during the continuance of the Exhibition, whether through the PCAA or otherwise.

The price shown on the label is the price paid by the purchaser.  Sales made through the PCAA will have precedence over any private sale made, while the work is exhibited.

All sales should be directed to the PCAA.

WORKS FOR DISPLAY IN BROWSER

Artists displaying works in the main exhibition may also put works for sale into a browser. Artists can show up to 6 pieces of work in the browser. Works should be protected with cellophane or similar and should be clearly labelled with the artist’s name, title of work and price. Works in the browser will NOT be entered for either the People’s Choice or the Penicuik Turner prize. There will be no administration cost for exhibiting works in this way but the normal commission will apply ie. 25% for non-members and 15% for members.

The PCAA does not insure art works which are displayed at the owner’s risk.

CARDS

This year the Association will also sell cards on behalf of artists. All goods should be clearly labelled with the artist’s name and address. Normal commission of 25% and 15% as above will apply.

BARGAIN BOX

 

A bargain box will be available this year. If you have anything you are willing to sell for £10 or less just put it in the bargain box. It can be a small sketch or preparatory work. MEMBERSHIP

Membership of PCAA has many benefits: reduced entry fee; reduced commission; reduced ticket prices for events throughout the year.

Membership costs £15 standard, £10 for unwaged, and £25 for family membership.

40 YEARS OF PCAA !

PCAA is 40 years old this year. It started when Penicuik was growing and has fostered a love of the arts and a community spirit throughout.
