The Penicuik Turner Prize Award Event
This is the highlight of the annual art and craft show when the Penicuik Turner Prize is judged and the winner of the People’s Choice is announced. [social_share]
This year we are extremely pleased that Darren Woodhead is going to judge the Penicuik Turner Prize. Darren is a superb watercolourist drawing his inspiration from nature. “For Darren Woodhead……pictures are feelings caught on the wing, fireworks in the mind” Julian Spalding
On a cold winter morning in February 2006 Darren started his three years as artist in residence on the River North Esk sponsored by the Orcome Trust. The natural beauty of the land around Carlops has been captured by Darren in pictures and in words in the book “Up River – The Song of the North Esk”. Darren has also been artist in residence to BBC’s Winterwatch based in the Cairngorms.
The People’s Choice, as voted for by visitors to the exhibition, will be awarded by Sir Geoff Palmer. Sir Geoff, Professor Emeritus in the School of Life Sciences at Heriot Watt University, was knighted in the New Year’s Honours List for his services to race relations, science and charity. Sir Geoff is a”weel kent face” in Penicuik and we are honoured that he has agreed to present the people’s prize.
This year, for the first time, Sir Geoff will present the People’s Choice Trophy which is being designed by local artist Jan Miller.
