Jemma Derbyshire (our Turner Prize judge, pictured) presents an art lecture online (via Zoom) and at the end of it, she will be announcing the winner of the Penicuik Turner Prize 2020!
Penfest has included a lecture on an art-related topic for several years. Past lecturers have included successful artists such as Kate Downie, Cath Davison and Aine Divine. This year we are delighted that Jemma Derbyshire will lecture about her practice and inspirations:
“Colour, surface and mark are the driving forces behind my practice. My subject matter is found in the everyday – predominately in the unorganised still lives of home and garden paraphernalia. Often just being caught by the haphazard placement of one object beside another, I get lost in visual connects, manipulating space and looking for the abstract values that exist within observation. Playful in nature, the works begin to take on their own direction, leading me through a dialogue of colour in response to a heavily prepared under surface.”
Jemma’s paintings ara gloriously colourful and playful. Check out her web site at http://www.jemmakderbyshire.com/
Jemma is Co-Director at Paintbox School of Art based in Cockenzie House. She is an excellent communicator who is well used to using video-conferencing as part of her teaching. There will be opportunity to ask questions and interact.
Jemma is also judging the Penicuik Turner Prize. This trophy was designed and made by Andrew Turner Blacksmiths and is awarded to the best work in the annual exhibition as judged by an invited artist. Jemma will announce the winner of the Penicuik Turner Prize 2020 at the end of her lecture.
Tickets for this lecture are £5 and can be purchased from the PCAA website by clicking here.
