We are delighted that 5 local authors are coming to the Arts Centre to share their stories, inspirations and advice with us. All 5 authors have been published.

MoiraCormack is author of a children’s book: “The Witch of Land and Sea” is Moira’s debut book. The colourful book cover and the subject are reminiscent of the Narnia books. This is a lovely book to read along with your child.

Stella Hervey Birrell is an emerging author of Women’s fiction. Her first novel, “How Many Wrongs Make a Mr Right” was published in 2016. Stella’s short pieces have appeared in many prestigious publications including the Guardian and Ropes Journal.

R L (Rebecca Louisa) McKinney was born in Boulder Colorado, raised in Northern California, came to Edinburgh as a student in 1995 and never left. In various incarnations she has been a bartender, horse trainer, teacher, researcher, community development practitioner and local government dogsbody. She lives in Midlothian with her husband Craig and two children. She is the author of “Blast Radius” and “The Angel in the Stone”.

Catherine Simpson is a novelist, poet, journalist and short story writer base in Edinburgh. “Truestory” is her debut novel. In 2013 she was awarded the Scottish Book Trust New Writer’s Award for the opening chapters. Her work has been published in various anthologies and Magazines and broadcast on the BBC. She has organised numerous writing workshops including ones for Midlothian libraries.

Claire Askew is a poet and writer living in Edinburgh; her first collection, “This Changes Things”, was published by Bloodaxe in 2016. Her first novel, “All the Hidden Truths” is due to be published in August this year.
