Artist pack 2020

26th September- 4th October.

Thank you for considering exhibiting with us this year. The Open Exhibition organised by Penicuik Community Arts Association has been a fixture in the calendar for many years and has been growing in size, quality and popularity recently. It is not possible to display the art works in an exhibition this year due to the coronavirus pandemic. So we have decided to continue with the exhibition online only. All the usual features of the show will be there: judging for the Penicuik Turner Prize, voting for the People’s Choice and sale of art work. This year there will also be the opportunity to buy a 2021 calendar featuring the works of local artists. All proceeds of calendar sales will be given to the PCAA to continue its valuable work supporting arts and crafts in Penicuik and district. Below you will find links to click for entry forms, and also instructions for submitting your works. If you prefer to download the Artist Pack information, please click here. We look forward to seeing your art!

All exhibits are considered for two prizes:

The Penicuik Turner Prize judged by Jemma Derbyshire

The trophy for this prize was designed, made and donated by local blacksmith Andrew Turner (hence the name). The winning entry is chosen by a judge who is usually a visual artist. This year the competition will be judged by Jemma Derbyshire, an artist based in Portobello who has a particular interest in colour. Previously a landscape artist she is now increasingly painting still life. Jemma will be presenting a lecture about her works and inspirations on Wednesday the 30th September via ZOOM. Tickets £5 can be purchased by clicking HERE

Jemma will announce the winner of the Turner Prize at the close of the lecture.

We hope you will be able to join us for this lecture.

The People’s Choice Trophy

The People’s Choice Trophy was introduced in 2016. Visitors to the exhibition are invited to vote for their favourite work. The trophy is awarded to the artist whose art work wins the popular vote. The trophy was designed by Jan Miller and donated by Penicuik Arts Association.

Voting for the People’s choice will run from Saturday the 26th September till noon on Sunday the 4th October. The winner’s name will be posted on our web site soon after the close of voting.
