June News Bulletin

Although life is a little quieter during the summer months there is still plenty happening at the Arts Centre. Our cafe remains open throughout the summer and remember it has a small garden to the rear which is a suntrap. Just the place to meet friends for coffee and cake.

[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]

The gift shop upstairs is usually open during Cafe hours and is always well stocked with hand crafted goods made by local artisans; pay us a visit to get that extra special gift. If we don’t have what you are looking for please discuss it with us. We may be able to help.

Exhibitions

June is a very busy month for exhibitions with three very different exhibitions in the centre – another three good reasons to drop in for a coffee.

27th May – 6th June:  Kirstie Hustler

There is a special pop-up exhibition in the cafe gallery of works by Kirstie Hustler. Kirstie produces atmospheric, semi-abstract coastal paintings and collages. Kirstie is interested in the margins: the places where things meet and merge and the spaces between them.

a special exhibition of prints in room 1 of the Arts Centre

Every year the Royal Print Society exhibits in room 1. This is always a first class exhibition and is free. Please take the opportunity to look in at room 1 during normal cafe opening hours for this very professional exhbition.

ANTHONY SCHRAG PROJECT

Anthony Schrag is a contemporary artist whose exhibitions and projects centre on live events from climbing a gallery wall to encouraging people of all ages to roll down hill for his exhibition of MALE ROLL MODEL.  His next project is a walking pilgrimage from Aberdeenshire to the Venice Biennale starting on the 7th June. We are hoping to host and encourage him on part of his journey. Keep an eye on the website for more details of this exciting project and help to put Penicuik on the artistic map.

AGM

Tuesday, 16th June, 7pm, Arts Centre

Hurray, time again to give thumbs up to the uniqueness that is the PCAA !
The agenda can be seen here below and further papers will be available on the website later.
We promise to keep the formal business as brief as possible and allow plenty of time for discussion and informal talks with the committee members. It is very rewarding to be involved with such an active organisation. Come along and find out more. We promise not to twist anybody’s arm!
View or download the AGM papers from here.

FLOWERS IN THE FOREST……

and for one night the forest was carpeted by flowers.

Local artist Susan Gierasik worked with pupils from Garvald school to bring colour and beauty to the Lost Garden of Penicuik. This installatin was part of the “Woollen Woods” Voluntary Arts Week initiative, and recycled crafty itens of the PCAA’s previous Brightening Penicuik Ventures.

“Said WHO?”

A blogging ‘who-dunnit’ game!
It is now exactly a year ago that around 150 primary pupils of Penicuik went on a quest to write the best Penicuik Mystery story after having attended inspiring workshops with Award Winning Children Books author Janis Mackay.  81 of these children succeeded to enter their creative writing to our story competition, which then resulted in a publication, The Penicuik Epic. 15 local writers worked away over the summer months 2014 to process the entries and there are still a few copies of this unique book for sale in Penicuik: at our craft shop, in the library, at the Town Crier, and at Peny Coe press.
Cool  summer holiday reading!
